Security for Restaurants

Restaurant risk concentrates at two doors and one hour: the back door during receiving and close, the register during the last count, and the hour after the doors lock. Add a kitchen full of open flame and a hood suppression system the fire marshal inspects on its own schedule, and a restaurant needs both halves of what we do, security and fire, from one vendor who knows the difference.

Protect My Restaurant

The Back Door Is the Whole Story

Food cost walks out the back: unlogged deliveries, unwatched dumpster runs, and the propped door that lets the alley into the kitchen. A camera on the receiving area with clear view of the scale and the walk-in, door prop alarms on the back door, and access control that logs who opened it after close turn the industry's leakiest area into a documented one. Managers checking cameras from home after close is the habit that catches problems in week one instead of quarter three.

Registers, Safes, and the Closing Hour

Cameras over each register and the office safe do double duty: deterrence against the outside threat and clarity for the inside one, voided-transaction patterns, drawer discrepancies, and the disputes that come with cash businesses. For the closing crew, a silent panic button at the register and office reaches a 24/7 central station without escalating what is happening in the room, the scenario late-night food service unfortunately has to plan for. The burglar alarm takes over when the last person arms it, with the monitoring center calling the manager list, not just making noise.

The Kitchen Is a Fire System With a Menu

Hood suppression is the one system a restaurant cannot operate without, legally and practically. We handle kitchen hood suppression inspections on the semiannual schedule the code requires, suppression repairs when a nozzle, link, or cartridge fails, and the fire alarm testing that ties the hood system to the building's alarm. One calendar covers all of it, which matters in an industry where a failed fire inspection can close the doors during your best week. Sprinklered dining rooms fold their NFPA 25 inspections into the same visit.

Multi-Location Operators: One System, Every Store

Two locations run informally; five run on standards. Operators growing past their first restaurant standardize the stack, same camera platform, same access setup, same alarm procedures, so a manager moving between stores already knows the system, and the owner sees every location from one login. New builds get the standard from day one; acquired locations come in through a system takeover that keeps whatever hardware is worth keeping. Franchise operators also lean on the footage for brand-standard audits and the access logs for the perpetual question of who opened late and who closed early.

Restaurant Security Questions

How often does kitchen hood suppression need inspection?

Every six months, by code, with the inspection tag on the system to prove it, plus after any discharge or kitchen reconfiguration. The fire marshal checks the tag; so does the insurance adjuster after any kitchen fire. Details on our suppression inspection page.

What cameras does a restaurant actually need?

Registers, the safe/office, the back door and receiving area, dining room entries, and the parking lot your staff walks to at 1 a.m. Six to twelve cameras cover most single-location restaurants. Kitchens get coverage for safety and dispute resolution, positioned to survive grease-laden air, which is also why restaurant cameras need cleaning on a schedule.

Can I check the restaurant from my phone?

Yes, remote viewing is standard on everything we install, live and playback. For owners of multiple locations it is the difference between managing and guessing; the nightly two-minute flip through registers and back doors becomes a habit fast.

Do restaurants need a panic button?

Any location with late hours and a cash close should have one, silent, at the register and office, wired into monitored response. It is inexpensive insurance for the scenario every operator hopes never to need, and staff genuinely notice the difference in how safe closing feels.

Who handles the fire side versus the security side?

With us, the same company: hood suppression, fire alarm, sprinklers, burglar alarm, cameras, and access on one service relationship and one compliance calendar. Restaurants juggling four vendors for those systems are usually paying more and passing inspections less.

I knew when I called and had a conversation with Donna that they would be a good fit to do business with. Donna and Zach was very friendly and responsive. I was switching from a different company and im so glad that I did. Zach came and installed a new security system for my business and was able to switch over my fire panel to meet county standards to stay in compliance. Zach was also able to switch my camera system to monitor. The transition process was smooth. Thank yall for helping us out at Brighter Minds Academy 2

Zach, John and Omar have been simply amazing. We had a difficult fight getting our business off the ground and Security & Life helped us in every way they could. They’ve been outstanding in every way. They designed and installed dozens of cameras, ethernet ports and access control systems correctly the first time, they always answer immediately when we call and any issue we have is resolved almost immediately. We will never work with anyone else for security, fire or low voltage because you simply cannot improve on perfection.
