Security for Offices & Office Buildings

Office security lives in the gaps of the workday: the twenty minutes before the receptionist arrives, the cleaning crew's hours, the ex-employee whose badge nobody deactivated, the tailgater who followed a friendly employee through the door. None of it looks like crime until it does. Good office security closes those gaps without making the building feel like a checkpoint.

Assess Your Office

The Badge Is the Backbone

Nearly every office problem routes back to who can open which door, and when. Access control answers it structurally: employee credentials that deactivate the hour someone leaves the company, visitor and vendor access that expires on its own, server room and HR file areas on tighter permissions, and a log of every entry when a laptop goes missing. Fobs and cards remain the office standard, with mobile credentials taking over in newer fit-ups. The mistake to avoid is the shared door code that hasn't changed since 2019; if that's your building, start there.

The Lobby Problem: Open but Not Open

An office has to receive visitors without receiving everyone. Video entry lets staff see and admit visitors from a desk or phone; delivery windows get scheduled access instead of a propped door; and a discreet panic button at reception covers the situations a lobby occasionally produces, staffed by one person facing the public alone. Multi-tenant office buildings layer this: base-building access at the entrance and elevators, tenant-level control at each suite, and per-tenant credential management so a departing tenant's access dies with the lease.

After Hours Is Half the Calendar

An office is empty two-thirds of its life, and that's when the system earns its keep:

  • Monitored Intrusion: Motion and entry coverage armed automatically after the last badge-out, with cleaning-crew schedules built into the arming logic.

  • Interior & Entrance Cameras: Entries, lobbies, and equipment rooms, retention sized for the two-weeks-later discovery that something's gone.

  • Remote Viewing: The office manager checks the suite from home instead of driving in for every 2 a.m. question.

  • Central Station Response: Alarm events verified and dispatched by a 24/7 operator, not a text message someone sleeps through.

The Compliance Side Nobody Assigns an Owner

Office fire systems fail inspections mostly through neglect of paperwork: the NFPA 72 annual test that lapsed when the facilities manager changed, the sprinkler inspection the landlord and tenant each assumed the other handled. Lease language decides who owes what; we help sort that split, then put the whole schedule, alarm, sprinkler, backflow, on one calendar with one file of records, so the fire marshal's visit is boring. Suite fit-ups and reconfigurations route through fire alarm work that keeps the drawings current.

Office Security Questions

What does an office security system cost?

A single-suite office with badge access on two doors, a handful of cameras, and monitored intrusion typically lands in the $5,000 to $15,000 range installed, with modest monthly monitoring. Multi-floor buildings scale by door and camera count. We quote keep-versus-add against whatever the building already has.

How do we handle the cleaning crew?

Their own credentials, valid only during their window, with the alarm's arming schedule aware of it. That replaces the worst common practice: a shared key and the alarm left disarmed all night. The access log also ends the recurring mystery of which crew was in on which night.

Can employees badge in with their phones?

Yes, mobile credentials work alongside cards and fobs on the same doors, so you can roll them out gradually. Offices like them because phones don't get left in desk drawers and lost credentials stop being a Monday ritual.

We're tenants, not the building owner. What can we control?

Your suite: its doors, cameras inside your space, your alarm, and your fire obligations under the lease. We work both sides of that line constantly, coordinating with base-building systems where needed. What you shouldn't do is assume the landlord's lobby cameras protect your suite; they usually can't even see it.

What happens to a departing employee's access?

Deactivated in seconds from the management portal, ideally as part of the same checklist as email shutoff. The access system also tells you if the departed badge gets presented afterward, which is occasionally a conversation worth having.

I knew when I called and had a conversation with Donna that they would be a good fit to do business with. Donna and Zach was very friendly and responsive. I was switching from a different company and im so glad that I did. Zach came and installed a new security system for my business and was able to switch over my fire panel to meet county standards to stay in compliance. Zach was also able to switch my camera system to monitor. The transition process was smooth. Thank yall for helping us out at Brighter Minds Academy 2

Zach, John and Omar have been simply amazing. We had a difficult fight getting our business off the ground and Security & Life helped us in every way they could. They’ve been outstanding in every way. They designed and installed dozens of cameras, ethernet ports and access control systems correctly the first time, they always answer immediately when we call and any issue we have is resolved almost immediately. We will never work with anyone else for security, fire or low voltage because you simply cannot improve on perfection.
