Mobile Surveillance

Some properties that need cameras most have nowhere to put them: a construction site with no walls yet, a lot with no power, an overflow yard leased for eight months. Mobile surveillance units solve the whole problem at once, solar power, cellular connection, cameras on a mast, towed in and watching the same day.

What a Mobile Unit Actually Is

A trailer or skid with a telescoping mast, cameras at the top, solar panels and batteries below, and a cellular connection carrying video out. No trenching, no electrician, no network drop, no permits for permanent structures. Because the connection is cellular from day one, the units pair naturally with live video monitoring, a unit on a dark site with operators behind it is the closest thing to a guard tower that doesn't need a guard.

Where They Earn Their Keep

Mobile units fit anywhere coverage is needed faster than infrastructure can follow:

  • Construction Sites: Material and tool theft peaks before the walls go up, exactly when fixed cameras can't exist yet.

  • Temporary Yards & Lots: Overflow lots, laydown yards, and seasonal storage that never justify permanent buildout.

  • Events: Festivals, markets, and gatherings needing coverage for a weekend, not a decade.

  • Problem Areas: Chronic dumping and trespass corners where a visible mast changes behavior fast.

  • Phased Projects: Coverage that moves with the work as phases progress across a large site.

The Deterrence Is the Point

A mobile surveillance mast is deliberately conspicuous, strobes, visible cameras, sometimes a speaker announcing the site is monitored. That visibility does most of the work: sites report theft dropping the week the unit arrives, before a single clip is ever reviewed. Combined with audio talk-down from live operators, the unit doesn't just record the guy climbing the fence, it informs him, by name of his jacket color, that police are being called, which ends most visits on the spot.

Practical Questions, Practical Answers

Deployment is same-week in most of our North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia service areas, often same-day for units in stock. Solar with battery reserve runs through the weather the Carolinas actually have; cellular means the unit works anywhere with signal, which is nearly everywhere we serve. Footage records on the unit and streams to the same apps as your fixed cameras, and when the project ends, the unit leaves, no abandoned infrastructure, no restoration work.

Rent for the Project or Own the Fleet

Most clients rent by the month for a project's duration. Operators with rotating needs, builders with multiple active sites, property groups with recurring seasonal exposure, sometimes buy units outright and move them where the risk is. Either way the units tie into the same monitoring and service relationship as everything else we install, and when a site graduates to permanent construction, we design the fixed camera system to take over exactly where the mobile unit left off.

Mobile Units as Part of a Larger System

A mobile unit rarely works alone for long. Construction clients typically pair site units with intrusion detection on the office trailer and tool cribs, and multi-property operators fold unit footage into the same dashboards as their fixed video surveillance. Because everything runs through one provider, the transition from temporary to permanent security, or a unit moving to the next site, is an account change rather than a new vendor search. For gate-heavy sites, adding license plate recognition to the mast turns the entrance into a logged checkpoint without building anything.

Common Questions

How fast can a mobile surveillance unit be on my site?

Days, not weeks, and sometimes same-day depending on stock and your location. Setup on arrival is hours: position, raise the mast, verify solar orientation and cellular signal, and confirm cameras and connectivity with the monitoring center.

Do mobile units work without power or internet at the site?

That's their entire reason to exist. Solar panels and batteries handle power; cellular handles connectivity. A site with neither utility gets full coverage the day the unit arrives.

What happens during extended cloudy weather?

Units are specced with battery reserve for realistic regional weather, not ideal conditions. Power status reports remotely, so a unit trending low gets flagged and addressed before coverage lapses rather than after.

Can the cameras on a mobile unit be monitored live?

Yes, and it's the recommended configuration for unstaffed sites: live monitoring operators respond to events on the unit's cameras with audio warnings and dispatch, the same as on a fixed system.

Is renting or buying a unit the better deal?

Rent for a defined project; consider buying when you'd otherwise rent most of the year across rotating sites. We'll run both numbers against your actual usage rather than defaulting to whichever we'd rather sell.

I knew when I called and had a conversation with Donna that they would be a good fit to do business with. Donna and Zach was very friendly and responsive. I was switching from a different company and im so glad that I did. Zach came and installed a new security system for my business and was able to switch over my fire panel to meet county standards to stay in compliance. Zach was also able to switch my camera system to monitor. The transition process was smooth. Thank yall for helping us out at Brighter Minds Academy 2

Zach, John and Omar have been simply amazing. We had a difficult fight getting our business off the ground and Security & Life helped us in every way they could. They’ve been outstanding in every way. They designed and installed dozens of cameras, ethernet ports and access control systems correctly the first time, they always answer immediately when we call and any issue we have is resolved almost immediately. We will never work with anyone else for security, fire or low voltage because you simply cannot improve on perfection.
